A modern design for a brand new identity

Start-Rite Shoes have been at the forefront of the children’s footwear industry for over two centuries, with 2017 marking the brand’s 225th anniversary. The same year, the company also underwent an update for its brand to better reflect its leadership in this market and the ability to cater to the needs of today’s generation of children and parents.

Start-Rite Shoes needed a fresh new redesign for their ecommerce store, that was in keeping with the new brand identity and appearance. The company appointed Williams Commerce to carry out this redesign.

Before creating the initial design proposal, the Williams Commerce Marketing department conducted an in-depth technical website audit. This focussed on evaluating existing performance and serving UX recommendations to assist in improving ecommerce conversion rates, as well as create a truly user-centred design from the outset.

Making the most of Magento functionality

With the ecommerce store being built on the Magento Commerce (formerly known as Enterprise) platform, the design team worked closely together with the developers to ensure that the new re-design would require minimal adjustments to the existing Magento functionality.

The new design’s key objective was to provide Start-Rite’s customers with a strong branded experience, delivering a pleasurable shopping journey across all devices.

The Result

Williams Commerce’s design experts delivered a contemporary new ecommerce design for mobile, tablet and desktop, featuring a refined sticky header and elegant drop-down mega menu to enable shoppers to start their journey easily.

Bold lifestyle imagery and beautiful call to actions featuring Start-Rite’s contemporary new suite of branded imagery was also applied throughout the website.

In addition to this, a new easy guide to measuring feature was built into the homepage and with dedicated pages showcasing a variety of measure at home tools to facilitate children’s shoe purchases online. This has been created considering the needs of Start-Rite’s customers.

Beautiful, rich content pages were also filled with high-quality imagery and helpful advice to aid the shopping journey.
