Improve overall ecommerce conversion rate, with a main focus on mobile ecommerce conversion rate, as mobile had the highest traffic share.

Our approach

After performing an in-depth conversion rate analysis which reviewed the user journey on the website, and included a detailed funnel analysis and reviewed key pages across the website,  our CRO team identified the pain points for customers and what were the main barriers to visitors completing their purchases.

The next step was creating a series of data-driven recommendations. This included what changes needed to be applied to the website, and particularly on the mobile version, to remove these barriers and help streamline the customer journey from start to finish.

Finally, once our recommendations were approved, we started implementing them gradually via our proactive development service, and the results speak for themselves.

The results

Within just a few months since the changes were implemented, we started seeing an uplift in conversion rates, with the mobile ecommerce conversion rate seeing the most impressive improvement, getting close to desktop values in less than 12 months.
In May 2018, overall ecommerce conversion rate increased by 39% compared to the previous year – from 4.95% to 6.86% for the whole website, with mobile ecommerce conversion rate rising by 48% YoY to 6.39%.

The challenge

The main goal in this case was getting the ecommerce conversion rate above the 1% threshold for the whole website, and improving performance for mobile as well, which although didn’t account for a very traffic share, was still a valuable source of traffic.

Our approach

Due to the specialist nature of this ecommerce website, our CRO team first had to truly understand the way people were interacting with the website and what an improved customer journey would look like. The conversion rate analysis conducted reviewed the entire website, following a top to bottom approach, and after identifying the key concerning areas across mobile, investigated these as well.

A report filled with recommendations in order of priority in terms of the impact they would have on conversion rates was then created and presented. Once the recommendations were approved, our development team implemented them across a two-month period between July and August 2017 and the results were soon visible.

The results

Overall ecommerce conversion rate, as well as values for desktop and mobile conversion rates jumped after the changes were implemented, and maintained significantly improved levels afterwards, above the 1% mark for the all traffic and mobile visits, and closer to 2% for desktop.
